Instructions to glider pilots

Both the Department of Civil Aviation and the General Command of the Ras Al-Khaimah Police called upon the pilots of the recreational gliders "Paramotor" to fully comply with the licensing systems for this type of aircraft and driving techniques in order to avoid exposing the beachgoers to any risks or threatening their safety. Eng. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al-Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation in Ras Al-Khaimah, explained that in the framework of the ongoing cooperation between the Department and the General Command of Ras Al-Khaimah Police, it was decided to impose a specific mechanism to prosecute and punish pilots of the recreational gliders with a single-engine that violate the laws regulating and governing this growing sector which witnesses a remarkable increase in the past years. Moreover, the Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation, explains that the most prominent violations committed by the pilots of the recreational gliders is that some of them do not obtain the necessary licenses to drive, land, and take off from other than the places designated for that, as well as to land to minimum levels very close to the ground on the beaches full of frequent citizens, residents and tourists; this causes panic between children and women and the inconvenience of the parents. The Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation in Ras Al-Khaimah stressed the importance of compliance to the safety requirements that must be met in order to preserve the lives of the pilots and the safety of others in the public. Eng. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al-Qasimi stated that the owners and pilots of this type of aircraft must obtain a driver’s license that allows them to practice flying and conduct periodic checks for them while subjecting them to maintenance before using them in addition to being bound to take off and land from the official platforms approved for this type of aircraft in the Emirate; thus, he warns not to commit any misbehavior that threatens their safety and others'; he stressed not to fly at very low levels close to the ground. Eng. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al-Qasimi pointed out that such irresponsible behaviors pose a real danger to beachgoers as well as cause inconvenience, fear, and panic among children as a result of its loud voices; thus, their pilots must adhere to the instructions and guidelines aiming at preserving everyone's safety.
